BOJ: Big Mfrs Sentiment On Outlook Worsens For First Time In 7 Quarters
...US Conference Board: Sept US Consumer Confidence Index Falls To 48.5
Ireland Portugal Spain and greece teeter on the edge of default, yet the United States stock market rose again. Can anyone explain the reason why? There really isn't any reason for the market to have climbed in September. Data point after data point proves and shows that the worlds economies are in jeopardy yet money is flowing into equities from where noone really knows. The markets rise and the bearish etfs stand still, even in a down day these bear funds dont move like they used to. Is someone pushing the United States stock market upward in a show of strength? Wouldn't tampering with a free market be illegal?
The stock market is in the middle of earnings season as Ben Bernanke is testifying before Congress. The earnings are now showing that most companies are suprising to the upside and even raising guidance for the full year. However, this is only showing the strong market disconnect between Americans and corporatations. Corporations have been able to load their balance sheets for almost two full years with cutbacks, hiring freezes and wage reductions. The current status is bearing small to negative top line growth. Companies can always juggle and manipulate earning per share. The real crux of the matter is the average american and his consumer ability and that has been crushed by the same people wanting them to spend, Corporations. Without real wage increases and capital expenditures the common worker will not be able to support the economic growth that so many stock traders and economists are hoping for. In a cruel twist in this turbulent economy it appears that industry has become their own worst enemy by withholding Capex. They will only be able to juke and jive so much and cut budgets. WEventually the true picture will begin to show and that is they have cost themselves growth by withholding cash. Only when companies begin to loosen theior capex and start the proces of rehiring workers for top wages will this stock market recover.
